Object: Statue of Ptah-Sokar-Osiris

Material: Wood with remains of white ground and small remains of black paint.

Period: Late Period of Ancient Egypt,
26th to 31st dynasty,
664 BC to 332 BC.

Description:    The wooden statue represents the ancient Egyptian funerary deity Ptah-Sokar-Osiris. The god is depicted in the form of a mummy with summarily modeled arms and legs. He is wearing a tripartite wig, false beard and high crown. The face is finely worked with remains of black paint outlining the eyes. The pin beneath the feet was used to mount the figure in an upright position.

Dimensions: 45.5cm high, 7.5cm wide.

Condition: Body almost fully intact, small part missing at the crown, other parts only loosely connected with the crown. Parts of the original white ground still intact and small parts of black paint in the face still present.

Provenance: Acquired by us in 2017 from the private posession of M. Voos, Germany. Inherited by M. Voos from the Germany private collection H. Herbst. Acquired approx. in 1976 at Davies Antiques, London for the Herbst collection and brought to Germany (a copy of the original invoice is available).
