Description: | Rare funeral figurine from China's Tang Dynasty. Relatively large and finely worked body and face. Has musical instruments in her hands (cf. other figurines from this group that were sold by us). Remaining paint on the surface. Original earth and patina. This is the last figure of the 8 figure group we had. |
Provenance: | Excavated in China. Legally exported via formerly British Hong Kong in the 1920ies. Then Canelao private collection. With a San Diego, USA, based advocate (appearantly for appraisal). Then private collection of archeologist Dr. G. Smith, USA. Bought from him in 2008. |
