Object: Western Asiatic macehead

Material: Rock with wonderful red and brown veining.

Period: Late 4th to early 3rd Millenium BC.
Early Bronze Age of Western Asia.

Description:    Heavy stone head of a mace of ovoid shape. The head has a central drill hole for attaching it to a wooden shaft. Nicely polished aged surface.

Dimensions: Approx. 50mm height and approx. 60mm diameter.

Condition: Near perfect condition. Small and appearently ancient chips and cracks on one side, possibly from a heavy blow.

Provenance: Acquired by us in 2020 from the US-Amercian art market. Previously in a US-Amercian private collection. Acquired into the collection in 2005 from Sotheby's New York, auction June 7th, lot no. 122 (group). Previously in a German private collection since approx. 1980.
