Roman Imperial
Ancient Numismatics – Authentic Roman Imperial coins in the Alte Roemer Gallery
With their monetary reforms, Caesar and Augustus established a monetary system that persisted for more than two centuries. The exact relations between Aureus, Denar, Sesterz, Dupondius, As, Semis and Quadrans were precisely fixed, as well as the weight and the content of precious metals. Especially concerning the latter, a decline soon became noticeable, during the reign of the first 12 Ceasars. Although subtle at first, it strongly accelerated in the 2nd century and reached the peak in the 3rd, finally resulting in the fundamental currency reform of Diocletian. The Alte Roemer Gallery offers you a broad variety of Roman Imperial coins, from rare Denarii and Aurei of Caesar, Augustus, Tiberius or Nero, to interesting coins of Trajan, Hadrian and Marcus Aurelius up to impressive and partially very rare coins of the barracks emperors and usurpers from the 3rd century. It would be our pleasure to work with you individually on your personal collection, and help you find special pieces that you would like to add to it. Please do not hesitate to contact us at any time via email or using our contact form. Correspondence is welcome in English, German, Italian, French, Russian or Japanese.-
